is the identical person mentioned by that name in the
manumission above recited I do therefore grant his
said application and hereby Certify that from the information
of the afd Colonel William Whiteley the said negro
man called Charles is about thirty years of age was
raised in somerset County he is five feet two and three
fourths inches high yellow Complexion has a scar
across the top of his left foot and has lost the most
of the nail off his great toe upon the same foot
and no other notable marks which I can discover
                   In Testimony whereof I have hereto set
                   my hand and affixed the public seal of
(Coty seal)  my office this twenty ninth day of December
                   in the year of our Lord one thousand eight
                   hundred and twelve

                                           Caroline County Court


Caroline County to wit  the following Certificate was
delivered to James Houston Esq by request of the
negro George therein named on the
Viz ^Maryland^ Caroline County to wit whereas on the twelfth day of
January in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred
and seven Esther Wright of Caroline County by Deed
of manumission duly executed acknowledged and recorded
amongst the Records of Caroline County afd did manumit
and set free a negro an named George to be
free from and after the first day of January eighteen
hundred and eleven  And whereas the said negro
man named George this day made application
to me for a Certificate of his freedom agreeably to the
act of assembly in such case made and provided;  And
being satisfied by the Oath of James Houston Esquire
that the said negro man named George for whom this
Certificate is made is the identical person mentioned by
that name in the manumission above in part recited
I do therefore grant his said application and hereby Certify
that from the information of the said James Houston
Esq the said negro man called George about forty
