June 22nd 1813 this day delivered a Certificate of
freedom to negro Else manumitted by John Hooper
proved by Colonel Wm Potter


July 19 1813 this day delivered a Cert to negro
Harriett manumitted by John Hooper proved
by Benj.a Roe of Q Anns and to one to negro
Susan at same time freed & proved by above
July 27  1813 this day delivered a Cert to negro
Benjamin manumitted by John Hooper proved
by Wm Potter


    State of Maryland Caroline County to wit
                Whereas on the twenty third day of August in the year of
our Lord eighteen hundred and thirteen Elizabeth Sherwood of
Caroline County afsd by Deed of manumission duly executed acknowledged
and recorded amongst the Records of the said County did
manumit and set free a negro man named Samuel to be free from
the date of the said manumission.  And Whereas the said negro
man named Samuel hath made application to me for a Certificate
of his freedom agreeably to the act of assembly in such case
made and provided.  And being satisfied by the oath of Solomon
Brown Esqr of the County afsd that the said negro man named
Samuel for whom this Certificate is made is the identical person
mentioned in the manumission afsd   I do therefore grant his
said application and hereby Certify that from the age expressed
in the manumission afsd the said negro man named Samuel is
forty three years of age was raised partly in Caroline County he is
lame in the right ancle from a nail which he stuck in the
ball of his heel and no other particular marks which I can
discover      In Testimony whereof I have hereto set my
                   hand and affixed the public seal of my office
(County)      this 23rd day of Aug.t in the year of our Lord 1813
